Space Show/One Giant Leap Foundation Support Drive
November 29, 2019
Dear Space Show Listeners:
My best wishes to all of you for a terrific upcoming Holiday Season and New Year. The Space Show is looking forward to a terrific New Year too but as we are a completely listener funded live radio program devoted to all things space, our coming year is in your hands.
First, a very special Thank You to all of you who have so generously supported The Space Show/One Giant Leap Foundation (OGLF) during this and previous years. As we approach our 19th year, your support has been not just extremely important but also impressive and life giving. The success of The Space Show is your success. Of course this is because of your financial support but also by your guest appearances, program blog commentary and your inspirational notes and comments to me.
To quickly summary 2019, we maintained our regular programming per week, excluding The John Batchelor Hotel Mars program on Wednesday which is a John Batchelor owned pre-recorded segment in the Batchelor studios in NYC. During this past year, we added many special programs to accommodate an increasing guest demand. In response to this strong guest demand, we added a Monday evening and Thursday evening Space Show program when called upon or needed. Our guests were the best ever during the year, always on the cutting edge of multiple space topics. Now we are already booking early 2020 guests and from our great start, I assure you the guest quality will be even stronger for 2020. Remember, your guest suggestions are always welcome.
It is now crunch time for The Space Show. You see, The Space Show relies entirely upon your support for its continued operation and programming Your financial support enables us to make our content freely available to everyone on the internet plus broadcast live with listener participation. All funds go directly to Space Show operations as no salaries are paid by The Space Show/OGLF. Without your support, in the simplest of terms, The Space Show will be unable to continue with the type of programming and benefits all of us appreciate and make use of for multiple purposes. Keep in mind that The Space Show supports authors, artists, film producers, academics, and others to fully promote and describe their material to our global audience free of charge. Given our always available archives, this comes as close to "perpetual motion" as one can get. Remember, all our shows are still available on our website archives. All nearly 3,500 of them dating back to our start in 2001! Please understand that all of what we do, including our archives, costs money to provide and maintain. Maintaining our complete archives for on demand access is one of the benefits offered the listeners, researchers, and interested parties by The Space Show/OGLF. Here is an example of what I am talking about. Let's assume that you were a past guest on The Space Show. Picking a year at random, let's say you were a guest in 2010. Where else other than The Space Show can you find your ten year old interview still available at the touch of your computer mouse? What if you were a guest or needed access to a program for research purposes dating back to 2002? Again, that program can be yours just by clicking on it or searching for it with our website search engine. I personally believe this is a valuable service and I hope you share my view. If so, please financially support The Space Show so we can continue with this unprecedented program access.
Another very important part of The Space Show is that we maintain our independence and objectivity in all our content. We never take fees from guests to be on the program and we air all sides to an issue regardless of controversy. To make up for not taking fees to appear on The Space Show, we rely on listener contributions to keep us strong and in continued operation. Given our policy, we do need your help to continue with The Space Show, to improve our programming, provide the toll free number for all of you to use as well as our blog and to modernize our phone line hybrid hardware as AT&T landlines will soon be discontinued. We will continue, with your great support, to produce a quality space message with excellent content in support of our guests, listeners, and our vision. You can continue to help us maintain this unique format for 2020 by supporting us through donations to One Giant Leap Foundation (www.onegiantleapfoundation.org), our nonprofit Space Show corporation. We understand that you have choices in your tax deductible contributions so we certainly appreciate your including us in your gift priorities. Remember, many of you reading this note have been guests on The Space Show and if 2020 is like other years, many of you WILL be a Space Show guest in the coming year.
The year 2019 is quickly coming to a close. Now is the time to donate to The Space Show/OGLF by making your contribution and helping us to continue or pro-space message for the coming year. Remember, if you pay U.S. federal taxes, you get a tax deduction for your gift as permitted by law as we are a 501C3 nonprofit organization. The same is true for those of you paying California taxes. I recommend that all of you check with your tax adviser regarding any and all tax questions. You are also welcome to contact me with your questions and comments about the show. Above all, please remember that we do need and we do appreciate your ongoing financial support. I can easily be reached at email@example.com.
You can make your donation online using PayPal via the new large banner ad at the top of The Space Show website (www.thespaceshow.com). The new banner announces our 2020 annual campaign. Just click on PayPal. There is also a large PayPal button on the upper right of our home page plus on our One Giant Leap Foundation site, www.onegiantleapfoundation.org/individuals.htm. If you prefer mailing a check, please make the check payable to One Giant Leap Foundation and mail it in care of me to P.O. Box 95, Tiburon, CA 94920 USA. Finally, make no mistake about it. It is your contribution that makes The Space Show possible. Your generosity has brought The Space Show to us all for nearly 19 years! Please, we need your help so that we can continue.
Again, thank you for your support. We could not have been here for all these years without your being with us all of the way. I look forward to sharing the New Year with you through The Space Show and the One Giant Leap Foundation. Once again, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions. Let's all work to make 2020 a banner year for space, prosperity, health, and peace around the world. And of course, The Space Show!
