John Batchelor and I welcomed Rob Godwin of Apogee Books to discuss the 1965 Gemini 5 mission as its anniversary was August 21 with astronauts Gordon Cooper and Pete Conrad. Rob took us through the mission challenges with the rendezvous evaluation pod (REP), the thruster issues, fuel cell problems, sleep problems, ultra cold space suits that interfered with their sleeping, POGO problems and more. The mission fell just short of 8 days. Rob talked about the importance of this mission in our overall effort to go to the Moon. This was a one segment Hotel Mars program.
