John Batchelor and I welcomed back Bill Harwood of CBS Space News to talk about the All-Female space walk on the ISS with Dr. Jessica Meir and Christina Koch to replace a failing power controller for the station. Bill described the mission, talked about each spacewalker and why the mission was delayed due to the need for a proper fitting spacesuit, the history of women spacewalkers on the ISS and Russian spacewalks which are different than those of NASA and usually pertain only to the Russian side of the station. Bill described the power supply and generation for the station, plus the distribution of such power throughout the ISS. Additionally, Bill talked about upcoming spacewalks on the US side saying that all four crewmembers including one from ESA were qualified for these walks plus there were spacesuit parts available for each crew member. That said, he spent time explaining the significance of this first ever All-Female spacewalk.
