John and I welcomed back Dr. David Grinspoon to discuss the recent findings on Mars of a unique carbon signature that might suggest ancient molecular life for Mars. The story, "Mars rover detects carbon signature that hints at past life source", is at www.science.org/content/article/mars-rover-detects-carbon-signature-hints-past-life-source. During our one segment discussion, Dr. Grinspoon explained the Curiosity rover findings, the meaning of light carbon, specifically carbon-12 and then carbon-13. We talked about what might be needed next and what the next steps might be to further research this discovery. Dr. Grinspoon talked biological hypothesis predictions, other data sources for Mars, plus he carefully explained the isotopic ratio. In addition, we talked in general about finding life on Mars or elsewhere in the solar system.
