John Batchelor and I welcomed the PI of the Mars InSight Lander team, Bruce Banerdt of JPL for a two segment Hotel Mars discussion of the lander and the InSight project.  During our two part discussion, our guest gave us an overview of the project, we discussed the various Mars InSight instruments, we talked about the Mars core and drilling into Mars, seismic information on Mars, the Martian winds, sound on Mars, the InSight arm and the fact that the lander was different from the rovers in that it does not move during the mission.  Also discussed in detail were the larger than normal solar panels on the lander and how this might contribute to the lander's resistance to Martian dust storms like the one that swept Mars for months earlier this year.  Before we ended the InSight discussion, Bruce talked about the planned InSight timeline, saying it was a planned two year mission but weather and solar energy permitting, InSight had the potential to last a very long time.

You can email Mr. Batchelor or Bruce Banerdt through me.  Bruce can also be reached through his JPL website.
