John Batchelor and I welcomed back Dr. Jeff Coughlin of the SETI Institute / NASA Ames to discuss the latest on exoplanet research and super Earth's. This week's Hotel Mars program was a double segment at about 19 minutes. We discussed finding out more about exoplanets rather than just finding them in the first place. Our guest had much to say about our growing ability to see what might be in the exoplanet atmosphere, including water vapor and O2 plus other components necessary for possible life. Our guest defined super Earth for us and explained their significance. Also discussed were both space telescopes and new Earth based telescopes. Our guest had much to say about the importance of the JWST for exoplanet research once it comes online.
You can email Mr. Batchelor or Dr. Coughlin through me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
