Dr. Avi Loeb was welcomed back to The Space Show to discuss his new study questioning the Big Bang hypothesis.  You can read a short summary of the study he undertook with astrophysicist Sunny Vagnozzi of Cambridge University which was published in the "The Astrophysical Journal Letters" in the article I posted on our blog for this program.  As our guest was with us for 84 minutes, a good portion of which was devoted to the Big Bang, the program was very technical as he discussed cosmic inflation, the cosmic microwave background, testing cosmic inflation theories which he suggested could not be done and much more.  He also said Big Bang theory cosmic inflation became doubtful with the data from the ESA Planck satellite which indicated more problems with cosmic inflation than originally thought.  Please listen carefully to this discussion as it is technical at time and you don't want to miss any of it.

Our guest also provided us with a detailed update on his Galileo Project which searches for extraterrestrial life signs.  We've talked with Prof. Loeb about this project on an earlier program.  Dr. Loeb explained the three main parts or objectives in a short summary of the Galileo Project.  This discussion was also technical at times but has more to it than just the technical as you will hear. For example, funding was discussed along with other imperatives.  Note we also talked about this project a few weeks ago with guest Dr. Pete Worden and Breakthrough searches work with Galileo and Dr. Loeb.

Other topics mentioned were blackholes including the super blackhole at the center of the universe.  Additional blackhole discovery work was included in this part of the program.  We had calls from Amir in Israel and from Ft. Worth John.  Amir wanted to talk about the fast moving interstellar objects, tracking them with the new Vera Rubin Telescope and even rendezvous with such fast moving items.  Dr. Loeb went into some detail talking about the speeds of these object and how to search for them.  Ft. Worth John asked our guest about quasars and objects 10 billion times the mass of the sun re very low mass blackholes.  They had a good short discussion on these technical matters.

Listener Tony from Pasadena called to ask our guest about the Brandenburg theory of nuclear explosions on Mars and the resident isotopes Dr. B points out being in the Martian atmosphere.  Avi did answer suggesting one needed more information to look for other explanations including the possibility of something we are not familiar with coming in from another solar system that deposited the abnormal isotopic distribution in the atmosphere.  This would be an alternative to Dr. B's nukes on Mars theory.  He said continued research and searching for alternative theories or information was necessary.  Do not miss all of what our guest had to say regarding Tony's question.

Our guest spent considerable time talking about the need for science to be open minded, explore for truth, to not be biased, to not be driven by ideology and politics.  He was critical of science today for being less than open to explore, accept and evaluate new information.  He talked about bias in science but we expanded that to education, news, etc.  Other examples outside of science included the Covid 19 vaccine information we were and are given plus the ongoing climate change discussion.  Once again, don't miss all of what our guest said on these topics but pay attention to how he said it.  Before ending, Avi told us about a new book he was working on which will be out in several months.  We hope to have him return to The Space Show at that time.

Please post your comments/questions for this show on our blog for the program.  We would like to hear from you.
