John Batchelor and I welcomed retired astronaut and MIT professor Dr. Jeff Hoffman to Hotel Mars to discuss making O2 on Mars with the MOXIE instrument on the surface.  Jeff described how MOXIE worked, the amount of O2 that could be made and the fact that they now have a process to double the production of O2.  Putting that in perspective, our guest talked about having 30 tons of liquid O2 to launch off the surface of Mars. He talked about commercial possibilities for O2 manufacturing on Mars, what it would take to support humans on Mars, using lava tubes for humans and/or gas storage.  Multiple other short topics were discussed in this two segment Hotel Mars show.

Please post your comments/questions for this discussion for our guest on our blog for this show.

You can email Mr. Batchelor or Jeff through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com. Dr. Hoffman can be reached through his MIT faculty page.
