We welcomed for the first time to The Space Show Jose Ocasio-Christian to discuss the newly emerging and developing Caelus Partners program, "Community in Space."  We started our discussion with our guest briefly introducing us to Caelus Partners and the Community in Space project, then Jose thanked those that have contributed and made possible this new space development concept and approach.  As an aside, I found it very refreshing for a guest to thank and acknowledge the folks that helped him come to this point for not just Communities in Space but his life as well as life events shape our space activity as much as anything else.  Thanking people for helping to contribute to the positive side of our lives is often forgotten in our world so as I said, I appreciated Jose taking a few minutes to thank those close and important to him.  After showing the proper appreciation for those Jose named, our guest went into more detail regarding Caelus Partners, his own special background and experiences that led him to the Community in Space project which he described in detail for the balance of our 95 minute program.  Because of the uniqueness and innovative qualities of Community in Space, it may be somewhat difficult to follow all of it which is why our guest has made his contact information available (near the end of our program).  In addition, I can put you in touch with Jose.  I will also be sure to draw blog posts to his attention.

The Community in Space project is a multi-faceted new space concept consultancy with expertise in financing, advising, marketing, and more.  Jose said there were two parts to the project.  Part One included the framework of the project while Part two focused on the campaign.  Be sure to listen to how our guest described campaign given the significance it has in the Community in Space project.

Listeners asked Jose several very thoughtful questions about the program and exactly who the project was targeting as a participant.  Jose was also asked if one acquired equity in the project by participating.  Don't miss what our guest had to say in response to these questions.

One of the points made early in our discussion was that space fairing nations would likely create a gap in advancement for the future as compared to non-space fairing nations.  I concur with this analysis as I do think our best future has a strong path through space exploration, development and in particular commercial development.  Jose talked about this at some length, then later in the program Linda from Portland asked him to explain more about this potential gap.  She wanted to know how Community in Space would bridge or solve the problem.  What were the plans to either avoiding the gap or mitigating it.  Jose talked about the importance of not leaving nations and groups behind.  Listen to the strategy he talked about.  For sure it will evolve over time as needed corrections to the plan are made.  Let us know what you think by posting a comment on our blog for this program.

Another topic of discussion was the apparent disconnect from the perspective presented by listener Wayne in Chicago.  I summarized Wayne's lengthy email as best I could so listen to that summary.  For the most part, Wayne thought that Jose and his group were courting the very entities that we keep hearing about as our enemies through the news, political representatives, etc.  Corporations for example, even those that are part of the military industrial complex.  After all, how many times do we hear these companies vilified in news reports and interviews.  Wayne asked Jose to address this disconnect as he saw and understood it.  Jose provided a detailed and lengthy reply to Wayne so do listen to it and again, let us know what you think by telling us on our blog for this show.

As we were nearing an end to the discussion, other discussion topics included participants in the project, the process itself, and what Jose identified as Global Institutional Alignment which he defined for us.  Public engagement, an important part of the process for Community in Space, was stressed as an important aspect of the project.

As the show was about to end, I asked Jose to tell us what success for Community in Space would look like and how would one know success had been reached.  This question opened up an entirely new arm of our discussion as Jose was very familiar with being asked this type of question from his military career and other experience.  This turned into a very important short but relevant discussion because knowing when success is at hand, when goals and objectives have been reached, or knowing if one has to make changes in the program to reach success is all important.  Jose's response to this question demonstrates that his group is reality based and not engaged in a fantasy program.  Make sure you listen carefully to Jose as he talked about success, what it would look like and what it would mean for Community in Space as well as for bringing socio-economic stability and growth to the space domain.

Please post your comments/questions on TSS blog.  You can reach Jose per the information he provided on air near the end of the show or through me.
