John Batchelor and I welcomed Dr. Ioanna Koutsouridou of the University of Florence, Italy, to discuss searching and maybe finding the descendants of the first stars in the universe.  Our guest not only described the search methodology but also the tools used such as China's LAMOST with confirmation from observatories in Chille.  We talked about supernovas, the content of the first stars being gas only, later stars having metal with the how and why, Population 3 stars and the pair instability relationship (supernova) and event.  You can read a good article on this in Science at www.science.org/content/article/astronomers-home-offspring-universe-s-fi....

Please post your comments/questions for this discussion on our blog for this show.

You can email Mr. Batchelor or our guest through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com. Dr. Koutsouridou can also be reached through the astronomy department at the University of Florence.
