Welcome to our nearly two hour Open Lines program.  I opened the program commenting on the passing of Apollo astronaut Michael Collins.  I also suggested a discussion topic around the appointment of V.P. Harris to be in charge of the National Space Council.  As for a Space Show question, I asked for help in solving a podcast app problem on the Apple format, Overcast.  If you can be helpful with this issue, let me know. So far there has been no response or c/s from Overcast.

Michael Listner, Atty, was our first caller.  Michael wanted to discuss the NASA human lunar lander award to SpaceX.  Part of the discussion addressed the challenges to NASA for only awarding SpaceX the bid.  Don't miss Michael's commentary and what he said would likely happen with the protests. Bill talked to Michael about the SpaceX award.  He commented on the $2.9 billion cost, possible NASA strategy and SLS.  A conclusion was that SpaceX certainly had to prove out their system.  In addition, the SpaceX system of testing which seems to include design, test, blow it up, redesign, test again and on down the line.

Fremont John called in to address several issues and concerns. First, he mentioned a reality TV show, Galactic Contest.  Then he mentioned a presentation going around, "The First 10,000 Days On Mars.  This can be found a Venture City YouTube channel.  Following those items, he talked about investment manager Cathy Wood selling 275,000 of Virgin Galactic stock in her ETF and the corresponding drop in the Virgin stock price.  John had no information on why the sale nor did he have information about the company.  He did call to our attention important Virgin Galactic articles posted on Parabolic Ark:  http://parabolicarc.com/2021/05/02/virgin-galactic-delays-quarterly-earnings-report-as-blue-origin-ticket-sales-announcement-looms; http://parabolicarc.com/2021/05/01/book-virgin-galactics-president-moses-believed-companys-flight-projections-were-a-pipe-dream.  John brought up a few more items of interest including a centrifuge plan for the lunar surface or another surface.  He referenced the NASA Ames author of the concept who I am trying to have as a guest on our program.

Kim called next to talk about the new Moonwards release, various designs you will see on the Moonwards website such as a capsule spacesuit.  Kim then told us about a contest and I had her take me to the contest information  from the Moonwards home page so be sure to listen so you can access it.  The contest prize is a special Moonwards t-shirt.  Another topic Kim brought up dealt with the out of control reentry planned for the Chinese Long March 5B rocket which just launched a part for their space station.  Don't miss what she said about the Chinese dangerous reentry plan.  Also mentioned was Russia talking to china about the inclination being used as Russia cannot reach the inclination China has decided upon.  Before leaving us, she told us about a Netflix film, "Stow Away.

Ft. Worth John called to talk about Woodward and his Mach thruster work, fusion and fuels for fusion.  He had much to say about He3 so do pay attention.  Regarding the SpaceX lander award, he thought it was risky with many challenges.  John also brought up the required by law congressional report on unidentified craft flying around which is supposed to be released to congress and us late in June.  He talked about the need for actual proof given what former senator Harry Reid recently said about his thinking Lockheed actually had sample material from downed or crashed craft.

As we were drawing to a close, Dr. Doug called about his recent discussions with Phil Metzger and Dr. Ellery of Ottawa, Canada.  They were talking about ISRU, space manufacturing plus they considered the question of just what levels of electronics were good enough at this time.  He was talking about say 1950 technology, earlier or later.  Later, Rick called in to talk with Doug about ISRU and related matters.  They had a most interesting discussion which took us to the close of our program.
