Sy Liebergot, noted author and retired NASA flight controller for Apollo and post-Apollo years was the guest on The Space Show for this program. Mr. Liebergot discussed his unique experiences growing up which helped him in his position as an Apollo flight controller, especially in emergency conditions such as when he was in the hot seat for the safe return of the Apollo 13 astronauts. Sy takes us inside the mind of an Apollo flight controller as well as the working of NASA during this golden period in its history. We talked about the various Apollo missions, the astronauts on the Moon as well as outside NASA, and the differences between NASA then and now. Sy talks about space policy, the fact that NASA really has no mission at this time, the Chinese space program, the International Space Station, and our future in space. Sy Liebergot brings to the Space Show audience not only a first hand historical perspective of our space program from someone that wrote the history books, but also an understanding of space and what we are doing now that were we to heed his call, we would be back to the Moon in the near future and on our way to Mars.
