As you will hear in the this two hour interview, Dr. Bell had much to say that will irritate people on all sides of the issues and the space advocacy movement. So get comfortable listening to this program, listen carefully, and give thought to what Dr. Bell talks about. In our first segment, Dr. Bell referred to the Obama plan as Plan 1 and Plan 2.

This was our annual live audience Responsive Space program from the 8th Responsive Space Conference in Los Angeles. There were no breaks in the show. We started the program with a discussion led by Dr. Jim Wertz who opened the conference with the admission that this might be the last Responsive Space Conference. Thus, we discussed the significance and the progress so far of the responsive space programs and concerns.

All topics were welcome on this Open Lines Space Show program. We had a mix of callers and email/chat questions on a variety of topics including how to establish civil space, space tourism, affordable space access, Obama's probable space policy, and the challenge of landing large payloads on Mars.

Guest: Jim Muncy returned for this Space Show program to discuss space policy in 2008 and its transition to 2009. We talked about the current Administrator Dr. Griffin and his efforts to remain at NASA plus what this would mean for continuing with the VSE and Aries as planned. Jim also mentioned some important public sector 2008 milestones, including the Zero G contract, the recent Cargo Resupply Services Contract, and improvements in DOD and Space Command.

Rand Simberg, a former project manager with Rockwell International, now publishes a weekly article with Fox News Online as well as maintaining a superb space policy weblog. During this program, Mr. Simberg discusses various aspects of space policy, the manned space flight program as maintained by NASA, the ISS, space commerce and space tourism, affordable space access by the private sector, and much more. Mr. Simberg is quite outspoken about what is needed for our nation to move forward in space development, including strong recommendations regarding government space policies and programs.
