John Batchelor and I welcomed back Dr. Marc Rayman for a double length session focusing on the Dawn Mission and Ceres. We discussed the missing large craters and impact basins on Ceres, why they are not there and the significance of this fact. We also talked about the models used to determine how many large impact basins should have been on Ceres. In addition, we talked about the Bright Spot being salt and why the scientists know that it is salt rather than ice. Toward the end of the segment, we addressed the Ceres issue regarding shadowed craters and the role the Ceres gravity plays in the analysis and conclusions.
