John Batchelor and I welcomed back Anatoly Zak (see www.russianspacenews.com) to update us on Russian space news. We started with the Russian, ESA, and NASA project referred to as Cis-lunar Station.  Some of the issues we discussed included the second hab module issues, logistic changes for the outpost vehicle, and launch issues given that as of now, only SLS and Orion can be used to get there with the needed payloads.  As a result of this, launches may be rationed as SLS is planned for other projects such as the Europa Clipper Mission.  Anatoly mentioned a new heavy lift Russian rocket that was in the works but it is way behind schedule and may end up being so late that it is not useful for this project.  Other topics discussed included the recent fatal fire incurred by Roskosmos. We talked about the incident, the cause and mitigation strategies to help keep it from happening again. One other major topic for discussion was the new Vostochny spaceport in far western Russian. We talked about labor issues, corruption, their launch manifest and schedule, plus I asked if there were any orbital advantages for a company from launching at Vostochny rather than Baikonur.

You can email Mr. Batchelor or Anatoly Zak  through me at drspace@thespaceshow.com. Anatoly can also be reached through his website per above.  Please post your comments/questions on TSS blog for this show.
