During our 11 minute plus discussion, John, Dr. Farrand & I discussed the upcoming tenth anniversary for the Mars rover Opportunity. We talked about what Opportunity was currently doing on Mars, its climb up Solander Point, roving on Endeavour Crater, and more. We talked about wintering over to keep warm. We also talked about Spirit and what happened to it, plus lessons learned from the Spirit sand trap. We talked about Opportunity as compared to Curiosity, then I asked if the geology on Mars was the same as Earth. For example, was igneous rock on Mars the same as igneous rock on Earth? As you will hear, for the most part they are the same but there are differences and different formations with different characteristics. Also discussed were water flows and a study of the Martian atmosphere and water flows by the en route Maven mission. Please post any comments/questions you might have on The Space Show blog.
