During the first segment of our 2 hour 10 minute program, we took the first call from Michael Listner who updated us with information about the possible Canadian spaceport in Nova Scotia.  We talked about the Ukraine, not Russia, also the Outer Space Treaty.  The next call came from Kim in Mexico.  Kim wanted to talk about the post Matt from Germany put on the blog about Frederick Nietzsche's philosophy and why we go to space.  I urge you to read Matt's post which is on the blog (if it disappears again, email me and I will replace it.  Disqus has been eating some posts over the past 6 weeks and it has already eaten his post once).  Kim had interesting things to say about Nietzsche philosophy and why we expand to space. Matt was listening live and offered feedback via email to what Kim was saying.  Kim then changed the subject to talk about the John Powell concept of airship to orbit. She heard the archived oldie show I offered while was I was gone, the program with the classic Charles Pooley-John Powell debate.  Kim was looking for more information from a physics perspective as to why what John Powell said he was going to do with airship to orbit was not possible without some sort of "new physics."  Feel free to post a factual, physics supported analysis about the issues taking an airship to orbit. My upfront show announcements, the call from Michael Listner, and Kim's call and discussion topics consumed the first segment of our program.

In the second segment of the program, we started off with a call from John in Ft. Worth.  He wanted to talk about SpaceX reusability, the advantages it would bring to the industry and space in general, plus he asked questions about the rapid turnaround time and refurbishment costs for the first stage.  Several listeners emailed responses to John's questions about Elon's plans for rapid turnaround, using the first stage upwards of ten times, accurately determining the refurbishment costs and the time period it might take go get that information.  Some listeners thought it would not take very long but John and a few others thought we might have to wait for a few years given the need for more flight history of the reused first stage rocket.

I asked John about the article I sent him which talked about Sir Martin Reese saying that if there were ETs out there, they might be AI robots.  John talked about AI, some of the concerns about it expressed by Mr. Musk, plus he shared his opinion of the Sir Martin Rees statement with us.  You can read what Sir Martin Rees said about this at  http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/aliens-robots-space-travel-conquer-before-humans-prediction-lord-martin-rees-a7670026.html.  Are you concerned about advancing AI?  Please share your thoughts with us about this topic on The Space Show blog.  In addition, John had some comments for Matt on his Nietzsche question.

Dr. Doug called and I thanked him for the website he suggested we visit, www.newspace.im.  Check it out.  Doug talked about a possible 24 hour turnaround for the F9 on reusability.  We also talked about the difference in cash flow on a 2 year payout project versus a one year pay out project.  Doug also talked about EVAs across the Moon and solar particle events.

Our last caller was John from Redding.  He talked about the golden oldie archive choices I set up for the week I was gone.  He liked it when I gave multiple listening options per day and encouraged me to do that again.  He also talked about shielding and the upcoming John Hunter program with Green Launch.

Please post your comments/questions on TSS blog for this show.  You can reach any of the callers or those sending in emails through me.
