We welcomed Yalda Mousavinia to the show for a one segment 1 hour 42 minute discussion of her venture Space Cooperative, Inc. based on the innovative use of blockchain technology.  Please be sure to visit the company website for more information, a list of suggested space projects and to sign up for their newsletter.  Visit www.space.coop.  Please note that many of you may not be familiar with blockchain technology and the way Yalda and her group plans to use it to democratize space policy.  I found searching for blockchain technology to be very helpful in getting a more detailed and comprehensive understanding of what Yalda was talking about and using.  I found one article to be helpful, "Blockchain, Explained"  This was by Zach Church at the MIT Sloan School.  I suggest you read it and others:   http://mitsloan.mit.edu/newsroom/articles/blockchain-explained.  I believe you can easily extrapolate it to apply to space.  I also suggest you do additional reading on the subject if you are interested.  Many times during our program's discussion, Yalda talked about their goal of having a be "Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO)" -   Don't miss how she described this.

Yalda spent most of the program describing this technology and how Space Cooperative will use it to democratize space policy and participation on a global basis.  Eventually, they will use it with real space projects for the Moon, Mars, an asteroid, but for now, it seems the company is focused on getting the technology in place for their global outreach efforts.  Additionally, more refinements are coming to their website to explain the process, the technology and the Space Cooperative plan so I suggest you subscribe to their newsletter and stay in touch with their development process.  This is an innovative outfit using cutting edge technology to attempt to do what many have talked about but nobody has yet accomplished.  It is worth staying in touch with them, maybe even participating with them.

Talking about program participation brought up the subject of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and tokens.  Pay careful attention to how Yalda described these tools and then told us how Space Cooperative would be applying and using the tools, including tokens.  To help me understand her token concept, I suggested a Space Show fundraising activity for the our nonprofit but donors also got tokens.  Yalda then suggested what the tokens might represent regarding premiums or further participation with The Space Show.  She suggested that they would be using tokens to enhance a Kickstarter or other funding efforts once Space Cooperative is open for business and going full force.

Two callers checked in with us, both Kim and Doug.  We had several email questions, even challenges to what Yalda was saying.  Kim, the first caller, had many questions and comments.  One was about the use of bitcoin or something similar, another was about liquidity and tokens.  Yalda had much to say about these issues, also about trusting the bank in charge, SEC regulations for the new equity crowdfunding ventures, computer systems, and more.  Kim and Yalda had a very good discussion so don't miss it.

Doug was our next caller.  He asked if there was a difference with a coin or a token.  Yalda addressed the difference so don't miss what she had to say about it.   Later, she said both could be used a fiat currency and she mentioned specific clearing houses such as Kraken.  As a result of Doug's call, there was a lengthy discussion about the use of tokens.

Lee sent in several questions, mostly pointing out that Yalda seemed to be talking about a process and technologies but nothing related to actually going anywhere or doing anything in space.   Don't miss Yalda's reply to this question.  Lee offered a follow-up about engineering expertise, design, and such.  All in all, I think Lee and others wanted to know how Yalda and her group would democratize space policy and projects when things like the OST exist, liability issues are there, mission planning requires real expertise and due diligence and on and on and on.  Yalda did address these issues and complaints head on so don't miss what she had to say in response to Lee and others.

Before we ended the discussion, our predicted that tokens will be mainstream within ten years.  She also mentioned their coming Meetup for Friday, Nov. 10  per this announcement: www.meetup.com/livinginspace/events/244409374.

Please post your comments/questions on TSS blog for this show.  You can reach Yalda through her website or me.
